Mitch Smith welcomes you to the world that is Etang Malhere, the Carp Garden.
An extremely quaint and captivating venue within the region of Brittany in the North West of France. Malhere is a well-established, delicate venue of some 3 acres sat in its own beautiful picturesque garden surroundings. This well-manicured, grass and tree lined water with its depths ranging between 2-8ft has a deluge of variety and inspirational spots to place a bait.
A large, heavy stock of nearly 120 carp can be seen swimming around the margins and under the trees, often throwing themselves clear of the water’s surface in a show of defiance, goading you that they are there. Huge carp in excess of 50 and 60lb can be seen clearly sitting in the margins sunning themselves in the bright sun and in full view, especially visible to the angler with the stealthy quiet approach!
Due to the abundance of flowing underground springs and a raised water table in and around the grounds of the lake the mineral rich water is very rarely unheard or seen trickling out from the overflow pipes tucked around the venue. This high percentage of water transfer within the Lakes holding is what has encouraged the carp to feed and grow at higher than average rates and has filled the venue with a huge level of well weighted fish. There is no less than 4 different 60’s, 10 available 50’s and a huge plethora of high to middle 40’s within this amphitheatre of carp. We are waiting like expectant parents for the news of the 1st Malhere fish to spin the scales through that magic 70lb barrier, we would not be shocked if this happened during the 2019 season or at late the early months of 2020 due to the previous recorded weight’s gained every year that are constantly being achieved by these stunning fish, that said there is a high probability that 3-4 of the 50’s should also be creeping through the 60lb mark in that same time frame, again with those fish being replaced in the 50lb slots with those big 40’s all coming through strongly. Very exciting times for big fish here at Malhere.
A maximum of 4 anglers with 3 rods each still gives the angler plenty of scope to try all sorts of tricks and traps at the venue and catch some impressive carp with most weeks seeing on average a few 50s or even a 60 on the mat. Greater emphasis can be given with just 2 of you fishing, enabling a little bit more of a roving approach to maximise your potential at the lake. At Etang Malhere you are never a small flicked boilie from the vicinity of a huge carp.
